More universal, more transparent, less complicated:
Rexroth relies on Ethernet Variants

More universal, more transparent, less complicated: Ethernet-based and real-time capable communication systems open new possibilities for machine manufacturers and system integrators to advance the modularization of machine designs and considerably reduce engineering costs. Dr. Karl Tragl and Wolfgang Altmann explain how Rexroth supports the internationally accepted standard SERCOS III in complete system solutions and simultaneously makes possible other solutions on all automation levels and in all drive technologies.

"For its industry-specific system solutions, Rexroth relies on the manufacturer-independent SERCOS III standard," said Dr. Karl Tragl. "SERCOS III unites the proven real-time mechanisms used in two million nodes with Ethernet physics and offers maximum performance with cycle times of 31.25 µs. With an I/O profile and a safety protocol, SERCOS III thereby establishes itself as a continuous and future-proof universal bus. Rexroth unites this international standard with powerful Motion Logic integration, intelligent drives and industry-oriented application know-how into scalable drive and control solutions. Moreover, Rexroth offers open interfaces for the transition to Ethernet-based, third-party solutions on every automation level, i.e. machine control, motion control and intelligent drives." – Dr. Karl Tragl, Chairman of the Board of Management and Technical Director of the Division Electric Drives and Controls.

"As technology leader for electrohydraulic motion controls, Rexroth supports all necessary regional and industry-specific control architectures on an Ethernet basis with custom hydraulic solutions," explained Wolfgang Altmann. "In the single- and multi-axis motion controls, the solution already takes into consideration the specific characteristics of fluid power technology. They process the movement tasks independent of the cycle time of the primary PLC in real-time. This simplifies the integration of the motion controls and decouples the drive physics from the automation level. As a result, users can directly integrate the proven advantages of hydraulics, such as high power density, generation of linear movements without wear, compact dimensions and cost effectiveness, in new machine designs using an universal communication architecture." – Wolfgang Altmann, Executive Vice President Sales of the Division Industrial Hydraulics.
